Master's (M.S.) Program
All students admitted to the M.S. program in mechanical engineering are required to designate their thesis supervisor and thesis topic at the start of their program.
Master's students are required to take minimum 7 courses (minimum 21 credits). The course program of each student is designed by the student and his/her thesis supervisor according to following rules:
In order to satisfy the mathematics requirement, one course must be selected from the following courses: ME 521, ES 501, AEE 501, MATH 583, MATH 587, or PHYS 503.
At least 4 courses must have ME 5XX codes, excluding ME 521, totaling a minimum of 12 credits.
The program may contain at most 2 courses (subject to the approval of departmental committee on master's program) selected from the three groups of courses listed below:
graduate courses offered by other departments,
undergraduate technical elective courses offered by the Mechanical Engineering Department,
undergraduate technical elective courses offered by other departments.
The maximum period to complete course work is 4 semesters.
In addition to the course load, the Master's students are expected to
pass ME 590 Thesis Seminar course before the end of their fourth semester and
complete, write, and defend a thesis sucessfully before the end of their sixth semester.
