The Department of Turkish Language and Literature has a graduate program which requires an attendance of two years and leads to a Master of Arts degree in Turkish Language and Literature. Students who have successfully completed an undergraduate program in Turkish Language and Literature or in a related field are eligible for the M.A. program. The purpose of the program is to enable students to specialize in the area they have chosen. The program offers specialization and research in old Turkish literature, modern Turkish literature and Turkish language. Though following different options, all students will receive the same master degree in Turkish Language and Literature.
The requirements for this degree consist of 21 credit hours of course work in the first years and a thesis project in the second year. The total number of credits is composed of 12 credits of required courses and 9 from departmental elective courses. The departmental electives may be chosen from one of three different areas by the student: Old Turkish Literature, Modern Turkish Literature and Turkish Language. With the consent of the advisor, a maximum of 6 credits may be taken from other graduate programs in related departments such as History, English Literature, Linguistics, Philosophy or Sociology.
